Punch Club – Pixel Rocky Balboa Simulator

Last night I spent several hours clicking. But this was not a VKontakte news feed at all, but something more global: Punch Club, a simulator of pixelated Rocky Balboa. This is a GameDev Tycoon, but only about a fist fighter. You need to click a lot and monitor indicators. Unlike other games, it has its own unique features and, please note, a conventional plot. To be more specific, we can talk about the ideality of the game as a time killer. Well, let’s discuss it gradually.

I’ll warn you right away that I’m expressing my personal opinion and, since I didn’t like Punch Club, there will only be a review.

Typical clicker (manager) with a couple of new features. You play the role of Carlson, a man in the prime of his life, who suddenly wanted to become a star of fist fights. What will it take?? Train. Train very, very hard. Barring a couple of snags, you’ll need to be full, happy, and alert to train. How to achieve this? Very easy. Turn off the game.

You just need to go to work, earn money there and spend it on replenishing your need bars. There are 4 of them in total:

* Satiety – Oddly enough, it is replenished from food consumption… but it is constantly consumed.
* Mood – Spoils after lost battles or during work. Otherwise, the character does not care about what is happening and is constantly positive.
* Fatigue – You can fill your stomach with energy drinks, or you can sleep like a person.

In addition to the main characteristics, there are also combat ones. In particular:

1. Strength – Responsible for the force of the blow, but the higher it is, the faster energy is consumed.
2. Dexterity – Dodges and tricky strikes are everything.
3. Stamina – Increases maximum energy and health levels.

And so it turns out that absolutely everything revolves around these parameters. Do you want to upgrade your character?? Buy some food. But how can you buy food if you have no money?? Easy, just earn money. But how to make money while you work, satiety, mood and energy are wasted. You need to sleep, but how can you sleep if food is wasted?. AAAAAA when to train? So you get a vicious hellish circle of endless clicks. But even this does not spoil the mood as much as random events. So you decided to go to your home to relax after the rocking chair, and you were attacked by bandits whose characteristics were sometimes twice as high as yours. And here’s the problem: you lose and lose half of the money you earned. Bitches, I earned them for these 30 minutes, how is that possible??

Okay, maybe I don’t understand anything, and this is a really sticky game. Yes, that’s right… the first 30 minutes. Then a continuous routine begins. Words cannot describe how boring it is to play. I won’t lie: if this was your first game in this genre, then you might well like it. I, as someone who has played a lot of other games, am catastrophically tired of being in it. Almost all actions in it are annoying because they are equipped with animation. The entire economy of the game rests on three pillars, which persistently delay the process of passing. I’m serious, any actions in Punch Club are burdened with unnecessary actions and expectations. For example, during the battle we cannot control anything. Two fighters fight in an automatic mode that we can’t miss. And you sit there like a fool, knowing about your defeat, and are forced to look at this for 2-5 minutes of real time. EVEN if you lose.

It’s a game and you can play it. It’s gone? A? ))

Okay… she has some positive traits too. The first and undoubtedly the most important is the graphics. The pixel art of the details pleased my eyes. The artist is definitely a very talented person, since he was able to hook such a contemplative player like me in a niche game. On the plus side, there are also a ton of references to cinema and even things that you didn’t expect to see in games. To summarize: there are a million references here that do their job well: distract from the boring gameplay.

The developers came up with a good idea, but decided to keep the player in the system by force. In Punch Club you don’t have fun after gaining stat levels, leveling up. Sometimes you win battles and you really enjoy it, but for this you have to click for 40 minutes, do uninteresting things – routine. Delayed battles that cannot be missed, long animations, unnecessary actions and windows triple the gameplay. I may be an idiot and know nothing about game design, but when a game is 66% inhibiting factors, it doesn’t get any better. I have these 249 rubles (the cost of the game on Steam), and I’m ready to pay for it even if it plays three times faster.

Now I regret the money I spent. Beautiful, fresh and terribly drawn out.
